Single ply membrane roofing involves using rubber or other synthetic material sheets that are chemically attached or ballasted to create a roof insulation layer. Seams of single ply membranes can be heat welded solvent welded and adhered using seam tape or other adhesives. The term rubber refers to single ply roofing membranes that include thermoplastics like tpo thermoplastic polyolefin and pvc polyvinyl chloride.

Single ply roofing is priced per square foot and an average price for materials and installation of a 60 mil roof may range from 3 to 5 per square foot.
